  "I want to tell you that these nearly 1,000 units (orders) are 100 billion in sales, with an average price of 700,000. Converted to 70,000 units, I have sold more than 10,000 units." Ding Lei, founder, chairman and CEO of Human Express Gaohe Automobile, said at the media communication conference.


  In 2021, Gaohe Automobile announced its sales volume, with 919 units delivered in December and a total of 4,237 units delivered throughout the year.


  This achievement also means that China Express once again reached the top of the monthly sales of high-end electric vehicles with more than 500,000 yuan.


  Gao He also said that there were more orders than expected, and the current situation is that the user's money has been received, but it is too late to deliver.


  "At that time, everyone said that it was too far away, and it may be extinct before that time." Standing in the newly opened Shanghai operation center of Human Express, Ding Lei recalled that when Human Express was founded, it was announced in 2017 that mass production would be delivered in the first half of 2021.


  Growing up amid the voices of doubt, he has the confidence to say "the high cost of use can't cost 20 billion".

  Although Ding Lei originally planned not to participate in the group interview, in the face of the bombardment of media questions, Ding Lei still could not restrain his desire to express his products. He got up several times and took the microphone to answer.


  Experience is the most mentioned word. It is not a new thing for veterans to go to sea to build cars, but the model of high-co-manufacturing cars is different from the way traditional OEMs rely on suppliers, which is mainly based on joint self-research.


  One of the core reasons for choosing self-research is the security issues brought about by intelligence. When the core components adopt the electronic control structure, when the automatic assisted driving is upgraded, how to ensure the safety of users to the greatest extent?


  HiPhi X chooses to equip HiPhi X with six redundancy, braking, steering, communication, power supply and computing, which means that even if the car has unexpected problems in core functions, there will still be Plan B.


  It also brings up the first question, when designing a car with an average price of nearly 700,000, how to balance redundancy and cost?


  Ding Lei said that the cost of dual redundancy is also very controllable. This is due to the experience of the core R&D team of Gaohe and the influence accumulated in the global automobile industry chain in the past. At least in the eyes of suppliers, Gaohe is not a new force. The team has more than 20 years of cooperation with core suppliers in the past. Nine of the world's top ten auto suppliers have good relationships with China Express.


  Ding Lei explained, "They don't think that China Express is a start-up company. We represent the future. They think that we know what we do and are willing to give (Gaohe) the best technology."


  "These suppliers have a correct understanding of Gaohe, they can talk about cooperation calmly, and they can also give reasonable price terms." This is also a unique advantage in the supply chain of Chinese Express.


  Compared with new technology companies such as Huawei, Gaohe's R&D capabilities are closer to OEMs, which is also an advantage. Gaohe's R&D team is a very experienced team. They can estimate many possibilities in the R&D center and understand the idea of ​​self-developed battery systems.


  Taking the self-developed BMS battery system of Gaohe as an example, this system has in-depth cooperation with Tire 1 in the development stage. Mark Stanton, CTO of Human Express, said that many companies are doing BMS or similar technologies, but the advantage of Human Express lies in the accumulation of technology and years of experience, which is also the underlying reason for Gaohe to choose self-research.


  When someone asked about the difference between Huawei and the traditional Tire 1, Ding Lei responded that Huawei is a great company, but Bosch has its own characteristics. It is also thanks to Bosch's experience that in-depth joint development can progress smoothly. "Gaohe engineers have experience in this area, we have been working with Bosch in BMS for a long time, and we have also cooperated with CATL," he said.


  A person in charge of Gaohe said, "In the more than 1,200 vehicles delivered, there is not a single case of problems." It reflects the advantages of HiPhi X in the safety system.


  Inside Gaohe, Ding Lei is the biggest product manager, and he is extremely confident in his work.


  He recognizes the importance of experience and says that experience can be used in two ways. The first one, because experience does not dare to break through, is called inertia. The second is because you have experience to dare to do this. In his eyes, Gao He belongs to the latter, and only with experience can he grasp innovation, which also enables Gao He to be able to do the most cutting-edge technology.


  High-end and product science


  Because in the high-end field, cars are not commodities, but works.


  "Recently, no one asks why Gaohe dares to buy so expensive, but asks me how a high-end brand like Gaohe maintains its positioning." Brand power is reflected in the details.


  Starting from the "scenario definition design", it is the logic of high-end car manufacturing.


  Chen Jun, founding partner and co-CTO of Human Express Gaohe Automobile, introduced more details of the safety system. Taking the collision scene as an example, when the side door cannot be opened, the HiPhi X will open the wing door, so that the driver and passenger can quickly get out of trouble.


  The design of redundant power supply can resist circuit damage after collision, and three sets of power supply systems ensure that the electric door will not be powered off. Even if a serial collision occurs and the front and rear power supplies are damaged, emergency cables are still reserved for the four doors. When the airbag deploys, the door locks automatically open to ensure the user's evacuation.


  HiPhi X is also designed to improve the strength of the entire body, using computer topology technology to optimize the shape of each load-bearing part of the body, so that the transmission path of the force in the event of a collision can realize the distributed load.


  At the same time, two locks are used at the connection between the wingspan door and the body, and the other counterparts are one lock. The two locks ensure that the door and the body are tightly integrated, so that the entire cockpit can efficiently bear the impact of collision.


  Chen Jun said that Gaohe HiPhi X uses aviation aluminum as the reinforcement material for the door, and uses 1500MPa ultra-high-strength hot-formed steel for the top I-beam, side columns and front columns. While reducing weight, the torsional stiffness of the body has been increased by 25%. This also ensures that the passenger compartment remains intact after a collision, ensuring that the driver and passengers in the vehicle have a living space.


  In addition, there are more than 500 sensors in the whole car of Gaohe, which can further realize active intelligence through software iteration. Taking rain sensor monitoring as an example, when it senses that the environment is raining, HiPhi X will automatically open only the side door.


  In an OTA, HiPhi X added a sensorless heart rate monitoring function, and users can complete heart rate measurement without any contact. This is a new feature co-developed with a Shenzhen-based start-up company that originally made polygraphs. With the help of the new algorithm, the vehicle can also judge whether the driver is nervous.


  Regarding higher-level autonomous driving, Gaohe is also making technical reserves. At present, Gaohe is expanding autonomous driving scenarios through projects such as the vehicle-road collaborative autonomous driving smart road project, the Zhangjiang 5G driverless autonomous driving park project, and the fully autonomous valet parking AVP.


  By the end of 2021, Gaohe Auto has completed the channel construction of 37 Gaohe experience stores and 17 delivery centers, and has established 155 service outlets nationwide, covering 147 cities. The number of charging piles in cooperation with Gaohe has exceeded 270,000+, covering 500+ cities and major expressways across the country.


  Among the car owners of Gaohe, there are users of luxury brands such as Ferrari, Porsche, Aston Martin, etc. This side confirms the user's recognition of Gaohe. Ding Lei said that he spends about six hours a week communicating with car owners, but there are not many questions returned in the dialogue. "The owners are very satisfied, which is something I didn't expect."


  When reviewing the development of Gaohe, Ding Lei said that in the past four years, the only thing that was not expected was the black swan of the epidemic, "but we still completed the delivery ahead of schedule." He used to think about when the sales volume of Gaohe could exceed 1,000, but with the mentality of being at peace, the only way is to fight.


  Regarding future sales, Ding Lei is also optimistic. He once said that there are more than 500,000 automobile products in the Chinese market, about 1.2 million units. If 30% of them are converted to electric, it will be close to 400,000 units. 500,000 has few cars to choose from now. If 10% of them buy HiPhi X, the monthly sales will be more than 2,000 units.


  In Ding Lei's mind, in addition to the numbers and short-term development on paper, Gao He has more meaning. It is for young engineers to no longer have to go through the joint venture era, to challenge the world's most advanced level in the high-end field, and to win the belated respect of the auto industry in China. This explains why Gaohe has become today's Gaohe, "except for being a benchmark for high-end models, others cannot win respect."
