Publish Date: 2022.08.01

In July, a total of 10 auto brands issued 16 announcements, and a total of 386102 passenger cars were recalled, a year-on-year decrease of 81.24% and a month on month increase of 66.41%. The absolute value of the recall scale is still low.

According to the recall announcement issued by the defective products management center of the State Administration of market supervision and administration in July, the automobile channel of China Economic Net has compiled the "list of domestic passenger car recalls in July 2022" through summary and statistics. In July, a total of 16 announcements were issued by 10 auto brands, with a total of 386102 passenger cars recalled, a year-on-year decrease of 81.24% and a month on month increase of 66.41%.

On the whole, although the recall scale of passenger cars in July increased significantly by 66.41% month on month, the absolute value of the recall scale in July was still low, and was 81.24% lower than the high level in July last year.

According to the car line, in July, independent brands Geely and BYD recalled a total of 175374 passenger cars, accounting for 45.42% of the total, ranking first in terms of scale.

Among them, Geely recalled 122446 vehicles in two batches, becoming the only brand that recalled more than 100000 vehicles in July. Including 94087 2019 boyue vehicles, which were recalled due to "lack of the prompt function of the hood not closed, and in extreme cases, the hood may be accidentally lifted when the vehicle is driving"; Another 28359 emgrand gs/gl were recalled because "the hydraulic clutch system of the manual transmission may cause abnormal wear of the seal ring and cage of the hydraulic release bearing due to assembly deviation and other reasons, resulting in poor return of the clutch pedal or incomplete clutch separation, and in serious cases, it will cause difficulty or failure to shift gears".

BYD expanded the recall of 52928 Tang DM electric vehicles. The reason for the recall is that some vehicle power battery pack trays have the risk of water ingress, which may cause high-voltage system arcing, and there are potential safety hazards.

German brands have the "upper hand" in recall frequency. In July, BMW, Audi and Mercedes Benz recalled 112248 passenger cars in seven batches, accounting for 29.07%.

Among them, Mercedes Benz issued four recall announcements, leading the way in frequency. It is worth noting that from 2017 to 2021, Mercedes Benz has become the single brand with the most recalls in the whole year for five consecutive years; In the first half of this year, Mercedes Benz has also issued 9 recall announcements, also ranking first. The continuous high-frequency recall is bound to have an adverse impact on the brand image of Mercedes Benz, which is worthy of vigilance.

BMW recalled 57871 cars in two batches and Audi recalled 28723 imported cars in one batch.

In addition, the US Department recalled 65622 passenger cars, accounting for 17.00%; 31984 Japanese cars were recalled, accounting for 8.28%; The recall of Korean and Italian cars is less than 1000.

In July, the recall of new energy passenger vehicles was still "active". Half of the 10 brands that issued the recall involved new energy products; A total of 112421 vehicles were recalled, accounting for 29.12% of the total recall. Among them, BMW recalled 57844 5-series plug-in hybrid vehicles and 7-series plug-in hybrid vehicles; BYD recalled 52928 Tang DM electric vehicles; Kia recalled 800 new generation K3 plug-in hybrid vehicles; Ford recalled 775 mach-e electric vehicles; Maserati recalled 74 Geberit and Levant hybrids.

It is also worth noting that in July, BMW and Mercedes Benz also recalled their imported products due to the same problem after Audi, Guinness and alpha Romeo recalled their imported models in June because "the information about the production date on the vehicle nameplate and relevant documents accompanying the vehicle is inconsistent with the information representing the model year in the vehicle identification code VIN".
