According to reports, Nissan called on the UK government on November 20th to relax its mandatory regulations for electric vehicles, which aim to encourage manufacturers to transition from gasoline and diesel cars to electric vehicles.

　　The "Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Mandatory Regulation" introduced by the former Conservative government in the UK requires car manufacturers to have at least 22% of their new car sales in 2024 be pure electric vehicles, otherwise they will face huge fines.

　　Nissan warns that if it fails to meet standards, manufacturers will face huge fines. The company urges the UK government to provide greater flexibility in lending, while implementing a two-year monitoring period for 2024 and 2025 due to slowing consumer demand.

　　Nissan stated in a statement that "this mandatory regulation may weaken the commercial feasibility of producing cars in the UK, while threatening thousands of jobs and billions of pounds in investment." Last month, a trade body warned that the UK is likely to miss the ZEV mandatory regulation target by 2024.

　　In 2024, the sales of pure electric vehicles in the UK will approach 300000 units, accounting for 18.1% of this year's market share so far, slightly higher than last year's 16.3%, but still falling short of the UK's target of 22%.

　　Due to the lack of affordable models leading to a slowdown in consumer demand for pure electric vehicles, slow promotion of charging stations, increased trade tensions, and intensified competition from Chinese competitors, multiple global car manufacturers are reducing their electrification targets.

　　Stellantis warned in June this year that it may stop production in the UK unless the government takes more measures to stimulate demand for electric vehicles.
