During the ups and downs of the automobile industry in the first half of the year, the automobile quality problem has repeatedly become the focus of the industry.
Take automobile recall as an example. Even if the scope is narrowed down to the domestic automobile market, there are no shortage of shocking automobile industry such as Mercedes-benz recalling 669,000 related models due to potential oil spill and Japan recalling more than 200,000 best-selling models successively.
In fact, in addition to specific recall cases, the recall data of the overall market is also intriguing. Time Finance will analyze the recall cases in the first half of 2020 from the aspects of data, causes and influences, and gain insight into the hidden surge in the quality of the car market.
The 67 recalls involved 32 brands
Combing through the recall information filed by the State Administration for Market Regulation, Time Finance found that in the first half of 2020, there were 67 quality recalls including passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles, involving 32 automobile brands in the passenger vehicle sector.
Among the car-hailing companies, five are self-owned brands, namely Chery, Southeast, Changhe, FAW Pentium and Lifan. The rest are joint ventures or foreign investments. In addition, if classified by brand positioning, there are 13 luxury brands, among which, Mercedes Benz became the car company with the most recalls again with 11 recalls last year.
At the same time, Benz recalled about 670,000 related models in a single recall, which is also the highest in the industry. Even Beijing Benz recalled about 237,000 C-class cars in a single recall, which is also the level of "recall king" in the public data.
In terms of specific models, there is no distinction between expensive and cheap before the recall. In addition to mainstream domestic cars within 500,000 yuan, super cars and flagship SUVs with a price of millions or even millions are also listed. For example, Lamborghini Aventador S with a price as high as 6.137 million yuan and McLaren 720S with a starting price of 3.788 million yuan are also listed.
Cao He, secretary-general of the Auto Chamber of Commerce of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, told Time Finance that although recall is a routine action of most auto companies, problems can still be seen from whether recall is active or passive and whether it involves key parts.
Mercedes became a major recall in the first half of the year
From January to June this year, Mercedes issued a total of 11 recalls, making it the car brand with the most recalls in the same period. Among them, still include a lot of make a person laugh or cry "SAO operation".
On January 10, 2020, BBAC announced a recall of some GLB SUVs, which had been on the market for just over a month.
On March 27, 2020, BBAC announced the recall of some C class, E Class, GLC SUV and other models, because some of the vehicles covered by the recall were improperly operated during the recall and maintenance on March 12, 2019.
On April 17, 2020, Mercedes-Benz (China) announced a recall of some S-class cars due to the installation of incorrect size brakes...

New cars are recalled immediately after launch, improper operation of the first recall requires "reheating", and the imported flagship cars also suffer from low-level assembly errors. From the above recall cases, Mercedes-benz has become a major recall company in the first half of 2020, which can be described as "all by strength".
On June 29th Mercedes launched its biggest temporary recall of the year.
Mercedes-benz (China), Beijing Benz and Fujian Benz have jointly launched a recall involving 669,854 vehicles, according to the recall information filed by the State Administration for Market Supervision. Among them, 620,369 related models were recalled by Beijing Benz as the largest component, while The C-class of Beijing Benz was the model that needed to be recalled the most, with 236,518 vehicles affected.
According to the recall notice, oil seepage may occur at the joint of high-pressure fuel pump and low-pressure fuel pump in the engine of about 670,000 vehicles that need to be recalled at low temperature and cold starting. The company will replace the fuel pipe of high-pressure fuel pump for vehicles within the scope of recall free of charge to eliminate safety risks.
It is worth noting that the recall will not be implemented until December 18, 2020. In order to get more details of the recall, such as the specific temperature that can cause oil seepage and why it takes half a year to implement the recall, Time Finance sent an interview to Mercedes Pr Department on June 30. No reply was received as of press time.
"With fierce competition in the market, brands also need to compete on price and speed of research and development, which may cause some quality problems." Mercedes-benz has become a major recall, Said Zhang Xiang, an automobile analyst with a doctor of engineering, in an interview with Times Financial.
The war of multi-brand electric fuel pump
In the first half of 2020, Toyota, Lexus, Honda and other automobile companies were successively recalled due to the defect of fuel pump that may cause engine stalling of vehicles during running. The total recall scale exceeded 1 million vehicles.
The Times financial investigation found that the above car companies need to recall vehicles, are produced from the DENSO fuel pump.
In fact, the death of the electric fuel pump was first seen last year, and even spread around the world.
In September 2019, Changan Mazda recalled 77,112 all-new generation CX-5 vehicles due to defective fuel pumps; In January 2020, Toyota recalled a total of 696,000 vehicles of various models in the US market due to possible failure of fuel pumps. Later in March, Toyota planned to extend the recall scope to 3.2 million vehicles worldwide.
In order to get more detailed information about the fuel pump in question, Time Finance recently sent an interview letter to Denso China, but denso China's official website said that it could not release relevant information, "Denso does not directly sell OEM (original equipment manufacturing) parts to consumers. In addition, we are unable to release any information regarding the product specifications, quality assurance and after-sales service of OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturing) parts."
It is reported that Denso is the second largest auto parts supplier in terms of global revenue in 2019, and fuel pump, as the main product of Denso, supplies many auto companies at home and abroad in addition to the above-mentioned auto companies that have issued the recall.
Denso fuel pumps have caused massive recalls of different brands in domestic and overseas markets in just half a year. Although the temporary situation is not as extreme as Takata airbags, it is still worrying.
