According to data from the leading domestic platform for collecting information on defective automotive products and receiving complaints from automotive consumers, Chezhiwang, a total of 14919 domestic SUV quality complaints were received in the third quarter of 2025. According to data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, the sales volume of domestic SUVs (excluding imported cars) during the same period was approximately 3.05 million, covering 357 vehicle models. To ensure the accuracy of the data, Chezhiwang only counted the first quality complaint cases of these 357 vehicle models this time. The calculation shows that the average sales ratio of SUV quality complaints in the third quarter of 2025 is 32.8%, which is significantly higher than that in the second quarter, and the overall quality performance has declined.

Chezhiwang adopts the "complaint sales ratio" evaluation system to analyze domestic SUV products in the third quarter of 2025. According to statistics, the average sales volume of domestic SUVs in the third quarter was 8542 units (with an average monthly sales volume of about 2847 units). Among the 357 models supported by sales data, a total of 108 models sold more than this average, becoming the best-selling SUV models in the third quarter. Among them, 78 models performed better than the average quality complaint sales ratio of 32.8% for domestic SUVs in the third quarter, and have a good reputation among popular SUV models in China. In the third quarter, SUV quality complaints hit a bottom and rebounded, reaching a new high in nearly a year, with a month on month increase of 44.2% and a year-on-year increase of 39.4%. During the same period, SUV market sales experienced two consecutive increases, once again breaking through the 3 million vehicle mark, with a month on month increase of 6.3% and a year-on-year increase of 8.7%. Under the influence of a significant increase in complaint volume, the quality complaint sales ratio of SUVs in the third quarter showed a significant increase compared to the second quarter, reaching the highest point in nearly a year, and the overall quality performance declined.

This quarter, the quality complaints of mid size SUVs turned to ultra compact SUVs, ranking first, with a 43.4% increase in complaints compared to the previous quarter. Large SUVs have experienced a surge in complaints, with a month on month increase of over 5.3 times, becoming the model with the largest increase in complaints in the third quarter. Similar to the trend of changes in complaint volume, the sales of most SUV models in this quarter also showed a certain increase compared to the previous quarter, with large SUVs once again taking the lead, increasing by 29.8% compared to the previous quarter. It is worth noting that the sales of compact SUVs have declined against the trend, with a slight decrease of 1.2% month on month, but still maintaining a volume of over one million units. From the changes in the sales ratio of quality complaints, it can be seen that the values of each vehicle model have increased month on month. Among them, although the sales growth of large SUVs is leading, they have become the models with the largest numerical increase this quarter due to the surge in complaints. In addition, mid size SUVs and mid to large size SUVs also performed poorly, with values exceeding the average of SUVs in the third quarter, which dragged down the overall quality performance.

The proportion of German brands has rebounded this quarter, with a month on month increase of 1.1 percentage points, further narrowing the gap with Japanese brands.

The performance of domestic brands this quarter is particularly impressive, with a significant increase in the number of models and over half of the models ranking in the upper middle of the list, occupying the top 10 of the list. The overall quality performance is better than in the second quarter. The performance of German brands is also commendable, with an increase of 2 models on the list compared to the previous quarter. From the perspective of brands on the list, the leader once again fell to Great Wall Motors, with a total of 9 models entering the list, including 2 models that made it to the top 5 of the list. Chery Automobile and Geely Automobile (including Lynk&Co and Jike) also performed well, with 7 models each on the list. As for the specific models on the list, the Ruilan X3 PRO successfully defended its title with "zero complaints", and its sales performance has also improved, which is quite impressive. The Xiaomi YU7, which was launched at the end of June, unexpectedly made it onto the list. Compared to its market performance of over 10000 vehicles per month, its outstanding reputation is the core support for its position as the runner up on the list. This quarter, Dongfeng Fengshen L7 achieved self breakthrough and jumped from 23rd place in the previous quarter to 7th place. Its stable reputation is worthy of recognition and we hope to continue to maintain it. In addition, the WENJIE M8 has successfully landed on the third quarter list, replacing the WENJIE M9 with outstanding sales performance to continue occupying the top 10 spots on the list. At the same time, it has also become the leader of large SUVs on the list, and we hope to continue to work hard. Compared to the continuously improving quality performance of some models, there are also some models in the third quarter list that perform poorly. One of the representatives is the Zero Run C10, which not only dropped to just over 30th place in the rankings, but also saw a significant increase in the number of complaints, causing the quality complaint sales ratio to rise to double digits. In addition, the Zhijie R7, which is also part of the HarmonyOS Zhixing camp, has shown a significant difference in performance compared to the Wenjie M8. Its ranking has dropped from the top 5 in the fourth quarter of 2024 to 59th place on this quarter's list, and its quality performance is not optimistic. On the other hand, traditional luxury brands on the list still perform relatively poorly overall. Although the number of models on the list has increased by one compared to the second quarter, the ranking and quality performance have mostly declined. Among them, the Volvo XC60 performed the worst, ranking at the bottom of the list, with the quality complaint sales ratio almost doubling, and the quality performance has fallen to the bottom. In contrast, the Brilliance BMW X3 has made some progress, although it ranks lower, it has successfully completed the task of returning to the list and performed better than last quarter. In addition, the performance of the Brilliance BMW X5 is relatively good, although its ranking has declined, its quality performance remains at a reasonable level, and it is still in a leading position among the luxury brands on the list.
