Since the second half of 2020, affected by the epidemic and the international situation, the "core shortage" has spread across the world. As a major automobile production country and the fastest-advancing country for new energy vehicles, China has a huge demand for automotive semiconductors, but most of it depends on automotive chips. Outsourcing, when automotive semiconductor production capacity is insufficient, domestic auto companies bear the brunt of the impact.

　　Faced with the crisis of chip shortage, SAIC-GM-Wuling began to implement the "strong core" strategy in 2018, defining the functional requirements of the chip from the scene, and defining the performance parameters of the chip from the user experience. Strengthen the in-depth cooperation with domestic semiconductor manufacturers, coordinate the three-level linkage of component suppliers and domestic chip manufacturers, formulate new domestic chip technology architecture and solutions suitable for SAIC-GM-Wuling models, and break through the technical bottlenecks of domestic chip adaptability and stability. At the same time, quality verification will be carried out simultaneously with chip manufacturers and component manufacturers to improve the versatility, economy and reliability of chips.

　　Among them, computing chips account for about 40% of automotive chips, similar to the CPU of a computer. Through joint technical research, the relevant parameters of Wuling computing chips have reached the technical level of similar foreign products. Not only that, SAIC-GM-Wuling is also in the fields of 5G communication chips, memory chips, energy chips, artificial intelligence chips, and other excellent partners in the United Nations to jointly break through core technologies and accelerate the pace of chip localization.

　　SAIC-GM-Wuling will build an open and shared domestic chip testing and verification and application platform, and with a more open, shared, and co-creative positive attitude, together with outstanding domestic partners, we will move forward against the wind and help my country realize the automobile industry at an early date. The chain and supply chain are self-reliant and self-reliant.

　　In response to the "chip shortage", the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology is coordinating the docking and communication between chip companies and application companies, organizing auto companies and chip companies to jointly compile the "Automotive Semiconductor Supply and Demand Docking Manual", further dredging the supply and demand information channels of automotive chips, and building a communication and cooperation platform for both parties. Strengthening the chain and supplementing the chain, by promoting the cooperation between auto companies and chip companies, will reduce the pressure on chip supply to a certain extent, but will also promote the transformation and upgrading of chip companies and accelerate industrial integration.
