Recently, according to BMW’s official channels, the first batch of BMW pure electric sedan i4 officially rolled off the assembly line at the Munich plant, and the first delivery is expected in June 2022.
In addition, BMW said that by 2023, more than half of the new cars produced from the Munich plant will use electric power systems, and most of them will be electric vehicles.
For this nearly 100-year-old automobile manufacturing facility, this is undoubtedly a milestone, declaring that BMW has transformed from a pure internal combustion engine production line to a pure electric production line. In the next period of time, BMW will fully produce the new i4 electric vehicle. In order to adapt to the model change, the BMW i4 production line in the early stage of the Munich plant in Germany will be produced on the same line with some hybrid models. However, this duality situation will not Lasts too long.
At least until 2023, BMW's Munich plant will achieve a 50% electric vehicle production plan, and achieve full electric vehicle production by 2024. In other words, after 2024, BMW's Munich plant will no longer produce fuel vehicles. On October 22, the new BMW i4 rolled off the assembly line at BMW's Munich plant, indicating that BMW has taken a crucial step towards pure electric conversion.
According to overseas reports, BMW is expected to invest as much as 200 million euros to complete this transformation. BMW i4 represents BMW's vision for the future, that is, electric cars can bring the same driving pleasure as ordinary gasoline cars.
Power system configuration of the pure electric car BMW i4: i4 adopts BMW's fifth-generation eDrive power and is uniformly equipped with a lithium battery pack with an actual capacity of 83.9kWh. i4 eDrive40 adopts a rear-mounted rear-drive motor power layout, with a maximum power output of 250kW and a maximum horsepower of 340 The maximum torque is 430N.m, the acceleration is 5.7 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h, and the maximum cruising range of WLTP is 590 kilometers.
BMW i series pure electric products will also be incorporated into the M family. This alone is enough to prove that BMW hopes that pure electric vehicles can also bring a hearty driving control texture. However, the plan can't keep up with the changes. Because of the global chip shortage, the i4 model will only produce the i4 eDrive 40 at this stage. BMW said that they are working hard to get enough chips, which is not only important for pure electric models, but also for other models in the product line.
Unlike other automakers who shut down their production lines due to chip shortages, BMW still maintains small-scale production during the chip shortage. However, as the chip crisis continues to worsen and the global magnesium crisis is looming, BMW's overseas factories are doing everything possible to avoid closing.
