Psa Peugeot Citroen, Honda and BMW have become the latest carmakers to announce the resumption of production in the UK ahead of the reopening of showrooms on June 1, foreign media reported.

BMW will restart the swindon plant on May 15, local time, while the Mini gori plant will resume production on May 18.Ford will also restart its dagenham and bridgeland engine plants on the 18th.

Honda said it would resume production at its swindon plant in the week ending June 1, 2020, and nissan would restart its sunderland plant in the same period.

PSA plans to restart van production at its luton plant "safely in stages" from May 18.The plant was shut down on March 19 and its new sanitation measures have been approved by industry bodies.

"PSA's enhanced program provides a high level of protection for employees, which is our primary criterion for restarting the plant," said jan Vincent, executive vice President of PSA group production. And industrial activity is driven by commercial activity, which is our second criterion.

PSA is safely restarting production systems in stages to produce the cars customers need.PSA will make its decisions in the coming weeks and months based on these two criteria."

Work is also underway to restart the vauxhall ellesmere port plant, but no timetable has been announced.Toyota also did not say when it would restart its bernerston plant, although it gradually resumed operations at its deside engine plant on May 13.

In fact, just before each big carmaker announced before the restart, the British government issued the lift will include manufacturing coronavirus outbreak restrictions roadmap. The carmakers' restarts are also supported by the latest safety restart guidelines from the association of motor manufacturers and traders.

The best practice recommendations, developed in collaboration with the garage equipment association, the independent automotive aftermarket association, the automotive industry research institute and the Scottish automotive trade association, cover the full automotive manufacturing environment and are intended to complement the guidance issued by the government. The exhibition hall will reopen on June 1 under government guidance, according to the safety restart recommendations issued by the SMMT on June 14.

Mike harrods, SMMT chief executive, concluded: "the novel coronavirus outbreak has dealt a severe blow to the automotive industry, but there is a silver lining in the industry as the lockdown measures begin to relax.

As global markets open up, so will overseas demand for british-made cars, engines and parts. However, to accelerate the recovery in this critical industry, we need everything in place, starting with the reopening of showrooms to drive basic demand."
