Gm sold 714, 000 vehicles in China in the second quarter.
On July 3rd GM China reported its second-quarter retail sales. It said it sold more than 714,000 vehicles in the second quarter, up 55.1% from the previous quarter, as market conditions gradually improved. But that was down 5.3% from 754,000 vehicles in the same period last year.
Buick sold more than 214,000 vehicles in the second quarter, up 7.8 per cent year on year. Cadillac sold about 59,000 cars; Chevrolet brand sold more than 78,000 units; The Wuling brand registered 270,000 units, up 9.7 percent year on year.
In the past two years, GM's performance in China has been poor and the decline has widened slightly.
According to public data, GM's new car sales in China in 2019 were 3.09 million units, down 15% from a year earlier.
According to the 2019 annual report, the income from equity in its Chinese joint ventures was $1.132 billion, down 42.8% year-on-year.
To reverse the decline, GM has ramped up product launches in China.
In the second quarter of this year alone, GM China has Cadillac CT4, all-new Generation Buick GL8 Avenir Family, GL8 ES Land And GL8 land business class, and Chevrolet Trailblazer Across the SUV, which have been successively launched online in China.
Gm China said its lineup has been further refined and optimized through intensive product launches.
More gm models are scheduled to follow.
Among them, buick Envision S, a midsize SUV of buick global strategy, plans to launch this year. The New BAOjun RC-5 sedan and rS-7 midsize SUV have been unveiled recently and will be officially launched this year. Wuling brand's first product equipped with global silver logo, Wuling Kaijie MPV, is about to be launched and enter the passenger car market.
Gm is now committed to electrification and plans to phase out markets other than The U.S. and China. Gm companies and factories in Thailand and India have been sold to Great Wall.
To accelerate its transformation, GM said it would invest $20 billion in electric and autonomous driving between 2020 and 2025.
The modular drive system was unveiled in March at GM's EV Week event, as well as the third generation global electric vehicle platform powered by the Ultium battery.
According to official data, the Ultium battery has a range of 50 to 200 kilowatt-hours and can support a range of up to 640 kilometres, with an acceleration of three seconds at 100 kilometres.
Gm also unveiled an electric pickup truck, GMC Hummer, an electric luxury SUB Cadillac Lyriq and a purely electric self-driving car-sharing vehicle, Cruise Origin. The three models will be developed on a new-generation platform and are expected to go into production from the second half of 2021 to the beginning of 2022.
As gm's largest single market in the world, China is an important part of its transition to electrification.
Gm said it was accelerating product development and marketing. Gm has already exceeded its plan to launch 10 new energy vehicles in China between 2016 and 2020.
In the second quarter of this year, New Baojun E300/E300 PLUS, Wuling Rongguang electric logistics vehicle, Wuling Hongguang MINI EV will be launched. Buick's first all-electric SUV, the Micro Blue 7, is also coming soon.
