China recalled a total of 67 vehicles in the first half of this year, involving 3.2 million vehicles of 32 brands, according to the State Administration for Market Regulation.
Although nine times lower than the same period in 2019, the total volume increased significantly (2.75 million units in the first half of 2019), with a year-on-year increase of 16.37%.
Specifically, German brands accounted for 43.1% of the total recall in the first half of the year, followed by Japanese brands with 42.7%.
Among them, Mercedes-benz not only ranked the first in recall once again, but also basically covered all the models under its brand including imported Benz, Beijing Benz and Fujian Benz.
Honda, for its part, announced a recall of 770,000 vehicles on May 29 that also affected nearly all of its domestic models, the largest single recall in China this year.
It is worth mentioning that in the first half of this year, there were only 10 recalls of self-owned brands, totaling about 64,000 units, a sharp decrease of nearly 80% compared with the same period last year.
Some people think that this to some extent proves that the quality of domestic cars has been greatly improved in recent years, but others say that it reflects the lack and lag of autonomy in product defect monitoring and response.
From the point of view of the reason of recall, the fuel system problems caused by the recall accounted for more than 60%, involving a total of more than one million vehicles.
Embarrassingly, the reasons for the recall in the first half of the year, including manufacturing technology, can be said to be various, such as the installation of incorrect size brakes, the roof is easy to fall off due to not sticking properly, the bolts are not fastened according to the correct torque, the wrong warning label, etc..
In terms of new energy, the AQSIQ issued four recalls from January to June this year, involving 14,300 vehicles (up from 27,600 in the same period last year), including Chery Areze 7E, Tesla Model X, Changhe Big Dipper and Lifan 650EV300.
In addition, according to incomplete statistics, in the first half of 2020, there were 20 electric vehicle fire accidents in China, down by 31% compared with the same period last year. Among them, there was a significant upward trend from April to June, and as many as 7 accidents occurred in June alone.
China's automobile recall system started in 2004, when the Defective Automobile Products Recall Management Regulations, led by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, and other four departments, was officially released, which was the first recall system to be implemented on a pilot basis in China.
Statistics show that 75.86 million defective vehicles have been recalled in China since 2004, with an average of nearly 13,000 defective vehicles recalled every day.
