Carmakers have been hit hard by coVID-19.Mazda has been monitoring inventory levels and commissioning production since the end of March and has applied for Y300bn in financing from three of Japan's largest Banks.Mazda decided to resume normal production and sales starting in August, driven by increased sales and expectations of us demand.
Beijing, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Mazda has decided to resume normal operations from August, or return to pre-coVID-19 levels, driven by sales growth and expected DEMAND in the US market, according to foreign media reports.
Mazda's North American sales were up almost 11 per cent in June from a year earlier.Sales of the three-row CX-9 and MX-5 sports cars rose about 50% and 25%, respectively.
Mazda has been monitoring inventory levels and adjusting production since the end of March. So far, including the European within the global dealers have basically resumed sales business. The company's plants in Japan, Mexico and Thailand will resume normal operations and all production adjustments due to the Novel Coronavirus outbreak will be completed by July 2020.
In addition, Japanese factories will resume overtime and holiday work. The two Ujina plants in Hiroshima and the two Hofu plants in Yamaguchi will operate on double shifts, with few shutdowns.
Mazda began gradually resuming operations in June, with its Ujina and Hofu production plants operating on day shifts, and its Mexican operations restarted that month.Novel Coronavirus outbreak has hit automakers hard, as has Mazda, which has applied for ¥300 billion in financing from three major Japanese Banks.
But Mazda is not the only carmaker seeking financing to boost cash flow in the wake of the outbreak. Other cash-flow affected carmakers are also applying for help.Toyota has applied for Y1tn of funding, while Nissan, GM and Ford are seeking Y500bn, $16bn and $15.4bn respectively.
Mazda's woes were compounded by a 14 per cent year-on-year fall in sales in February and a 33 per cent fall in March. In fact, even before the outbreak, Mazda was in deep trouble. In November, the company cut its outlook for operating profit for the year to March to Y60bn, down 27 per cent from the previous year.
Mazda's North American operations are headquartered in Irvine, California and are responsible for Mazda's sales, marketing, components and customer service support in the United States and Mexico through approximately 620 dealerships. The Mexican operation is managed by a company based in Mexico City.
