Tesla's capacity gap

Tesla had earlier signed a deal with the Shanghai municipal government to pay 2.23 billion yuan in annual taxes on its Shanghai Gigafacfactory from the end of 2023, and if it failed to do so, the land would have to be returned.At the same time, The annual sales revenue of Tesla's Shanghai gigafacfactory will be no less than 75 billion yuan, and Tesla must invest 14.08 billion yuan in capital expenditure in the Shanghai plant over the next five years.

All this will require a lot of capacity, and in the early days of the Shanghai plant, Mr Musk boasted that it would be able to produce 500,000 cars a year, or 9,600 a week, in two to three years.At present, the annual production capacity of Tesla's Shanghai factory has reached 200,000 vehicles, which is still a big gap from the annual production capacity of 500,000 vehicles.

Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory, which initially planned to produce the Model 3 and the Model Y, currently produces only the Model 3.The Model Y plant is one of the projects in the late-stage phase of Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory, whose steel structure was completed in early May.
