The POTENTIAL of the CX-30 is far from being realized.
On August 5, Mazda (China) released the Mazda Brand China sales results (retail) for July 2020.
Mazda's total sales in China in July 2020 were 17,750 units. Faw Mazda sold 6,804 cars and Changan Mazda 10,946. Since Mazda's website does not release year-over-year growth figures, it needs to be calculated. That compares with growth of 4.1 per cent for Changan Mazda and 4 per cent for FAW Mazda.
In addition, Mazda's cumulative sales from January to July were 115,080 units, with a year-on-year growth of -6.74%. Among them, 47,183 were FaW Mazda and 67,897 were Changan Mazda. From this data, this year's epidemic on Mazda is not a big impact, in fact, faW Mazda's abnormal noise incident is more harmful.
However, the revival in Sales in June and July is undoubtedly good news for Mazda. Speaking of the top three sales models, they are The Envision, cX-4 and CX-5 respectively. Among them, 45,977 Units were sold from January to July, accounting for 67.7% of the total sales volume, while 18,002 units were sold for CX-5, with an average monthly sales volume of 2,570 units.
The next-gen Mazda 3, The Onksela, and the CX-4 are certainly the backbone of sales, and for the CX-5, the cX-30's compatibility with it is very important. Judging from the launch of the CX-30, the number of 2,390 vehicles in June is far from reaching its potential.
But the CX-30 should be better developed because of the product competition pattern around the 2700mm wheelbase that reporters have mentioned many times. If the CX-5 and CX-30 work together, Mazda will be able to survive two years without a new product globally.
This year, Mazda fully combines the product characteristics of "next Generation" with the style characteristics of Chinese "Generation Z" young people, further defining the marketing activities of consumer groups, and has also achieved good results. Generation Z will account for 40% of total spending by 2020, according to Barclays Capital. This is where Mazda's maverick niche comes in.
Not long ago, Changan Mazda held its 2020 semi-annual dealer conference in Nanjing, Zhuhai and Xi 'an. From the perspective of dealers, in 2019, Changan Mazda added 15 4S stores and 45 2S stores, and the total number of dealers was 466. In addition, Changan Mazda built 77 new VI stores in 2019. Changan Mazda officials said the overall profitability reached more than 70 percent.
However, there have also been media reports that two dealers in Beijing have switched to Xiaopeng. Their 4S stores sell both brands at the same time. According to the sales data of one OF the 4S stores, the monthly sales volume of Mazda model is 7~8 units, while Xiaopeng can order about 40 units a month. Although the transformation of these two dealers should belong to the 30% loss-making dealers, this situation cannot be ignored for Changan Mazda.
From the 466 dealers of Changan Mazda, we can see that the total sales volume of Changan Mazda last year was 136,334 units, and the average sales volume of one shop was 25 units/month. 2S shop should do well and make profits, while 4S shop should have specific data to judge. So, changan Mazda this year's highlight is still on the CX-30 sales.
That leaves changan Mazda's big bet this year, the Mazda 3 Onksela and CX-30 models announced at the Chengdu Auto show that will be available in mid-September and will be powered by Mazda's Skyactiv-X black technology.
The world's first mass-produced E-Chuangqi Blue Sky X engine with a mechanical compression ratio of 15:1 has not only improved its torque output by 10~30%, but also improved its fuel economy by 20~30%. However, it is always "only seeing the sound of stairs, but no one coming down". Now Mazda has finally decided to bring it to the Chinese market, as a way to make up for lost time.
From the perspective of price, the starting price of cX-30 with imported 2.0L compression ignition engine will not be too high, because the competitive pressure in the range of 180-200,000 yuan will be great.
In addition, Mazda's all-electric SUV is "half-veiled" in advance. The electric SUV, code-named "J59E", is likely to be an overseas version of the MX-30. It is powered by "E-SkyActiv1" electric drive assembly technology, equipped with a maximum power of 107kW, peak torque of 265N·m motor, battery capacity of 35.5kwh. WLTP has a range of about 200 km.
The overseas version of the MX-30 is expected to go on sale in Europe this fall, starting at $35,000. However, due to the high involvement of the Changan, it is expected to have similar powertrains to the CS15 EV400 and CS15 E-Pro.
In fact, 2020 will be a tough year for Mazda Globally. According to the latest foreign news, Mazda lost 45.3 billion yen ($433 million) in The april-June period, its biggest loss in 11 years, because of falling demand in Japan and Europe. Therefore, the recovery of The Chinese market, especially Mazda's sales performance in June and July, is also crucial to Mazda's global performance and also proves the importance of the Chinese market again.
