In July, total retail sales of consumer goods fell 1.1 percent year on year, 0.7 percentage points less than in the previous month. Retail sales of consumer goods totaled 20.45 trillion yuan in the first seven months of this year, down 9.9 percent year-on-year and 1.5 percentage points less than in the first six months of this year.
In July, retail sales of consumer goods totaled 3.22 trillion yuan, up 0.85 percent month-on-month, and the year-on-year decline narrowed by 19.4 percentage points for the fifth consecutive month. Among them, retail sales of consumer goods above quota rose 2.2% year on year, 2.6 percentage points higher than that of last month. Retail sales of urban consumer goods fell 1.1% year on year, 0.9 percentage points less than the previous month. Among them, the automobile market sales increased significantly, and the retail sales of unit automobile products above quota increased by 12.3% year on year, rebounding by 20.5 percentage points compared with last month. Consumption of essential commodities continued to grow. Sales of grain, oil, food, daily necessities and Chinese and Western medicines increased by 6.9%, 6.9% and 5.3% respectively compared with the same period last year.
Retail sales in July reached 2.9 trillion yuan, up 0.2% from a year earlier, the first time this year that the growth rate has turned from negative to positive. Among them, the automobile market sales increased significantly, and the retail sales of unit automobile products above quota increased by 12.3% year on year, rebounding by 20.5 percentage points compared with last month. Consumption of essential commodities continued to grow. Sales of grain, oil, food, daily necessities and Chinese and Western medicines increased by 6.9%, 6.9% and 5.3% respectively compared with the same period last year. Consumption of upgraded goods continued to improve, with sales of communications equipment and cosmetics up 11.3% and 9.2% respectively.
