How popular is golf?
The European car market was severely hit by the epidemic last year, but the Volkswagen Golf car series has quickly regained the top spot in Europe after a brief disorder. According to statistics, the Volkswagen 8th Generation Golf unveiled in October 2019 has delivered 312,000 vehicles in Europe, of which 134,000 have been sold in Germany.
How high a user's enthusiasm for Golf 8 is, they may be disappointed to see Golf's recall. According to overseas media reports, Volkswagen recently announced that it will recall the new eighth-generation Golf models. Whether it involves domestic models is still unknown.
The reason for the recall is that there are some program problems in the car machine software, which affects the experience of using the car's infotainment interactive system and the software support of the reversing camera.
The scope of the official recall involves all 8th-generation Golf series models produced before July 2020, a total of approximately 56,000 vehicles.
Although the official stated that the recall is not mandatory, but a "voluntary measure." But there is a problem with the vehicle, who doesn't want to solve it? Especially the problem of designing a reversing camera, novice car owners should be more anxious.
This is not the first time golf has experienced software problems.
The debut time of the new Golf was originally scheduled for the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2019, and it is planned to produce 100,000 new cars in 2019. However, due to software problems, the debut time was postponed to October 24, 2019, and the mass production time was naturally relatively delayed. The output in 2019 was less than 8,400.
When it was time to deliver, the delivery was suspended again due to software problems.
In the latest EU regulations, new cars produced after April 2018 must be equipped with emergency call software. At that time, the "e-call" equipped with the new golf sometimes failed to work normally due to software problems, and delivery was suspended. Although production has been ongoing, it will not be delivered until the software problem is resolved.
Undeniably, in terms of software, the eighth-generation golf is a "problem." In other words, the public is a "problem student."
Some people may know that Volkswagen’s software problems are not only reflected in the Golf, but also in Volkswagen’s pure electric car ID.3.
At that time, more than 10,000 Volkswagen ID.3s produced at the Zwickau plant were troublesome because the software could not be upgraded automatically, and it was impossible to quickly determine where the problem was. Moreover, the degree of intelligence of electric vehicles is stricter than that of fuel vehicles. Once there are loopholes, they are hacked or safety problems occur.
As the requirements for automobile intelligence become higher and higher, the demand for software systems is also increasing. Automobile manufacturers have two ways to solve this problem, either by purchasing the required software system from outside, or by developing the software system by themselves. The public obviously chose the latter, which is undoubtedly a huge bet. I look forward to the early success of Volkswagen and solve the worries of users.
