Last year, Tesla announced that it had completely rewritten the underlying code of its Full Self-Driving (FSD) system and started user testing at the end of the year. Recently, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced that the test range of the new FSD has been expanded to 2,000 car owners. At the same time, the trial qualifications of some test car owners will be cancelled. At the end of April, Tesla will make an important update to the system.
It is reported that the Tesla FSD Beta test version will update the software launched in the United States in April, or it can provide car owners with pure vision without using radar. According to Musk, Tesla will upgrade all the neural networks of the surrounding environment video, and use subnets in key areas, plus some other improvement measures, and finally realize the enhancement of the FSDBeta beta function.
Tesla will launch a "Download Beta" button for FSD users, which is expected to be released in the Build 8.3 update. The upcoming Build 8.3 will bring about 1,000 improvements to advanced driver assistance systems.
The 2000 car owners participating in the trial can post relevant test videos through social media. Tesla said that since FSDBeta is still only L2 autonomous driving, the driver still needs to keep focus and be able to take over the vehicle at any time while the vehicle is driving. Therefore, Musk announced that he would eliminate test users who were unable to concentrate during the test.
Judging from the previously sporadic FSD test video, this function is now "very close" to the control of a real person, and it can even actively identify special road conditions such as traffic lights and small animals.
However, even if Musk said that the FSD test so far has not had any accidents, but in light of the recent recurrence of Tesla crashing into a large white truck in the United States, people have to ask whether Tesla FSD has been resolved. There are still doubts about the problem of not being able to recognize white objects.
The FSD system is an important pillar of Musk's future travel vision, and Tesla eventually plans to release a taxi network that uses FSD to fully autonomous driving. However, although Musk has always expressed confidence in the realization of fully autonomous driving technology in 2021, Tesla admitted in two emails to the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) at the end of 2020 that FSD is currently not truly fully automatic Driving, but like Tesla Autopilot, belongs to the L2 automatic assisted driving system. Moreover, the current Beta software is not suitable for fully driverless operation, and major improvements will not be made this year.
