  Data fraud or more than 30 years


  According to multiple media reports, the Nagasaki plant of Mitsubishi Electric did not fully inspect the air-conditioning control performance and power consumption of train air-conditioning products in accordance with user requirements, but forged inspection data. This violation may last for more than 30 years.


  On June 29, Mitsubishi Electric issued a statement confirming that it was conducting an internal investigation into the improper practices of the Nagasaki plant in the inspection of some train air-conditioning products in response to the "falsified inspection data" exposed by the media. Mitsubishi Electric stated that it discovered this problem in mid-June and stopped shipments, but the delivered products have no problems in terms of safety performance.


  At present, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan has intervened to investigate this matter, including whether Mitsubishi Electric’s misconduct involves other products. In addition, Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism revealed on June 30 that it had requested the company to report on relevant facts in order to confirm safety. At a press conference on June 30, Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Kato Katsunobu said: “The practice of improper inspections over the years has problems, which is regrettable.”


  According to Xinhua News Agency quoting the Japan Jiji News Agency, train air conditioners produced by Mitsubishi Electric account for the largest share of the Japanese domestic market, and are equipped not only for ordinary trains but also for Shinkansen trains. According to the East Japan Railway Company, about 9,800 air-conditioning equipment from Mitsubishi Electric has been introduced on the Shinkansen. It is reported that most of the products are subject to violations.


  In this regard, Mitsubishi Electric stated that “it has caused great troubles to customers and related personnel. We apologize for this and will work hard to prevent similar incidents from recurring”. At the same time, the company also stated that it will further investigate the factual relationship and will The employees involved will be punished.
